Previously, Dr. Makara was CEO and Chief Technology Officer at ComInnex, Inc. (2012 - 2015) where he co-founded the company’s chemistry business and helped grow the operation to 40+ people, and Managing Director and Director of Chemistry at AMRI Hungary for 4 years (2008 - 2012) where he was in charge of the organization of approximately 100 employees. Between 2004 and 2008 he worked as a Senior Research Fellow at Merck & Co. in Rahway NJ supervising Merck’s Target Validation Chemistry group where he was responsible for developing Merck’s fragment-based lead discovery platform, the associated library development and its application to lead discovery programs. During the period between 1998 and 2004 Dr. Makara held various managing positions at NeoGenesis Pharmaceuticals including Director of Library Development and Director of Hit-to-Lead Optimization. Prior, he was a postdoctoral fellow in Professor Garland Marshall’s group in the School of Medicine and Center of Drug Design at Washington University at St. Louis. Overall Dr. Makara spent 15 years in the United States where his groups contributed to the development of a Safety Assessment Candidate and a Preclinical Candidate. Dr. Makara obtained a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry from SUNY at Buffalo in 1996, and a M.S. (1991) and a B.S. (1989) degree in medicinal chemistry at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

Previously, Dr. Kovács was CEO at InFarmatik Kft. and InFarmatik, Inc. where he founded the company, initiated the chemistry business and instrument development then grew the operation to 20+ people.  He was VP and Director of Chemistry at ComGenex Hungary for 6 years (1992 - 1998) where he helped grow the company from a start-up level to a platform technology organization of approximately 100 employees. Between 1982 and 1992 he worked as a Research Fellow at Gedeon Richter Chemical Works process R&D. Meanwhile in the period between 2008 and 2014 Dr. Kovács was co-founder and co-CEO of MediMass a medical device company with a core mass spectrometry technology (IKnife) for on line tissue analysis in surgery rooms. The company was acquired by Waters Corp. in 2014.

Dr. Kovács obtained a doctor univ. degree in organic chemistry in 1994, and a M.S. (1982) and a B.S. (1980) degree in medicinal chemistry at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

He is a co-author in 5 peer reviewed publications, 2 book chapters, over 3 patent applications (laser dye, and primer coupling, thermal gradient technology) and numerous abstracts.
